Arlene now making landfall

The advisory is in!  The National Hurricane Center has declared that landfall is occurring near Cabo Rojo.

  • Maximum Wind: 65mph
  • Location: 21.5N 97.3W  (my estimate was probably .1 too far north if this observation sticks in post-analysis)
  • Minimum Pressure: 996 mb
  • Movement: due west at 9 mph
Conditions will rapidly fall apart over the next 24 hours, but the strongest rainbands remain offshore.  They will move onshore in Mexico and extreme southern Texas over the next 6 hours or so.  4-8″ of rain may fall over some areas with higher rainfall totals occurring in mountainous areas.
All down hill from here!  Rest up now before the season heats up soon enough.
